The Oriental Court of Dubai

5th Year

Dealing with contemporary issues as a potential result of colonialism, British and French imperialism and the Orientalist attitude of the 18th Century, this project helps to define a new era of architecture, which I address in my thesis as: Neo-Orientalism.

The Oriental Court, programatically, assists in dealing with the 90% of non Emirati populations of Dubai. The courthouse uses a British model of precedent law in order to judge crimes, scaling from civil to criminal. The form and basis for the court all stem from Arabic and Persian influences in order to help define cultural aesthetics in the region.
